Trawellogy is a travel site about the part of travel that costs you money. Not sunsets and not bucket lists: rental counters, deposit holds, one-way fees, airport transfers that were supposed to be a fixed price, eSIMs that will not register on the local network, and domestic flights whose baggage rules change between the search page and the boarding gate.
We publish practical, country-specific guides for more than 70 destinations, and we update them when the rules change.
Why the site exists
Most “cheap car rental in [city]” articles are written by people who have never stood at a rental counter at 11pm being told the card in their hand is not accepted. That gap is the reason for this site. Every guide here tries to answer the questions you only discover you had after you had already paid: what the excess actually costs, whether a debit card works, whether a foreigner may legally rent a scooter, what a transfer from the airport should cost, and what the local alternative is.
Who writes this
Trawellogy is written by a three-person editorial team, each responsible for a region:
- Tom Wegner — Western and Eastern Europe, plus the cross-cutting guides on flights, transfers and travel tools.
- Aline W. Adiram — Asia and Oceania.
- Lilit A. Wegner — the Americas and Africa.
Splitting the site by region rather than by volume is deliberate: it means the person writing about scooter rules in Vietnam is the same person who wrote about them in Thailand, and notices when the two contradict each other.
How we research and verify a guide
- Primary sources first. Rules about licences, minimum age, deposits and insurance come from the rental companies own terms and from national transport authorities — not from other blogs.
- Prices are checked, not estimated. Fares and fees quoted in a guide are taken from the operator or booking platform at the time the guide is written or updated, and are stated with the currency and the conditions they apply to.
- Named suppliers. Where we say a supplier is worth using or worth avoiding, we name it and say why.
- Dated updates. Every guide shows when it was published and when it was last updated. Guides that have not been re-checked in 12 months are either refreshed or removed.
- Corrections. If something here is wrong, email us and we fix it, with a note at the foot of the article saying what changed and when.
Images
Photographs on the site are licensed from Wikimedia Commons and other openly licensed sources, with attribution. We would rather show a correctly credited photograph of the actual place than a stock image of somewhere else.
How Trawellogy makes money
Trawellogy is free to read and is funded by advertising and by affiliate commission from travel partners such as DiscoverCars, Booking.com, Welcome Pickups, Tiqets and Airalo. If you book through a link here, the partner pays us a small commission — you pay exactly the same price.

What we do not do
- We do not publish sponsored posts dressed up as editorial.
- We do not accept payment for a place in a ranking.
- We do not republish press releases.
